[Matt Pendleton/Gainesville Sun]Florida did show signs of progress because of quarterback D.J. Lagway. They finished with a 7-5 record during the regular season and there is a chance that the Gators could be a darkhorse team in the conference next season. Lagway was a freshman last season and completed 59.9% of his passes for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 101 yards on 50 carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 2.0 yards per carry.
Greg McElroy Thinks That the Florida Gators Could Turn Heads Next Season
Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway (2) looks to hand off the ball during spring football practice at Heavener Football Complex at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL on Thursday, March 6, 2025. [Matt Pendleton/Gainesville Sun]Greg McElroy of always college football thinks that the Gators could turn heads in the SEC next season. Lagway could be one of the best quarterbacks in the conference and Napier returns for a fourth season. Outside of that, McElroy thinks that there are other strengths on this roster. He said,
“If they can figure out wide receiver and make improvements defensively… I think Florida is an EXTREMELY dangerous team.”
The conference is already loaded with the Texas Longhorns, the Georgia Bulldogs, and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tennessee Volunteers and the South Carolina Gamecocks will also be in the mix for a potential playoff spot. As for the Florida Gators, it will be interesting to see what kind of jump they will make next season also.
