Alabama football has not lost more than two games in a regular season since 2010. They have not lost five games since 2007, a possibility for this year’s rendition of the Alabama Crimson Tide following a loss in the upcoming Iron Bowl and a postseason defeat. Barring an absolute miracle, Alabama will not compete in their seventh College Football Playoff. However, many fans, pundits, and the CFP committee still hold the Crimson Tide in high regard, albeit fresh off a blowout road loss against conference bottom dweller Oklahoma.
On Tuesday, with the updated College Football Playoff rankings having Alabama as the top three loss team (13th), experts immediately conjured up a road map for Alabama football to return to the top 12. Playing in the hyper-competitive SEC, Alabama owns the 12th most demanding schedule in football. Meanwhile, they also have ranked wins against Missouri, Georgia, and LSU. Yet, college football fans are not having the Crimson Tide this year, believing they have no place in the expanded CFP.
Fans Take Aim at Media For Pushing Alabama Football CFP Berth
According to Heather Dinich via On3:
Alabama needs ‘lots of help and a prayer‘ to reach the 12-team College Football Playoff, per @CFBHeather.
“So you can name your upsets here, but they need at least two. Miami losing to Syracuse, Notre Dame (losing to) USC…”
Dinich, a senior sports writer for ESPN, believes Alabama football can still make the College Football Playoff despite three losses, two of which against potential six-loss teams. Dinich’s first points at the South Carolina Gamecocks taking down the two-loss Clemson Tigers this weekend. Clemson sits one spot ahead of Alabama in the most recent CFP rankings. She then indicates Alabama would likely need fifth-ranked Notre Dame to lose on the road against USC and Miami to fall in their regular season finale against Syracuse. However, she also indicates that if both Notre Dame and Miami win, Alabama could still sneak in if SMU (12th) loses by enough against Miami in the ACC title game.
More importantly, Alabama must take care of business against Auburn this weekend in the 89th rendition of the Iron Bowl. Playing host to Auburn, Alabama is currently an -11.5 point favorite. Still, three losses, with two coming against mid-tier SEC teams, have college football fans believing the Crimson Tide have no right to sniff the CFP, regardless of how the rest of the season unfolds:
They don’t deserve to get in

If they make the playoffs its clear bias in the committee

They aren't getting in. 2 very bad losses to medicore teams. Let's stop rewarding Bama based on what Saban did!

It’s so hilarious to watch the national media carry water for Alabama
It’s over. Saban is gone. It’s done.
Move on.

Never seen a team get so many chances to get to a championship. I miss the good ol BCS days where you had to go undefeated to win it all.

It isn’t like they got boat raced by Oklahoma in September. It happened 4 days ago.

This shouldn’t even be a discussion…

Nobody wants to see them in the CFP.

Alabama should not get in, enjoy being on the outside looking in like the rest of us.

Should be eliminated!
