AFC South Predictions – Week 2

The AFC South enters Week 2 without a single win. That should change one way or another with the Colts taking on the Jags and a divisional matchup that could end up producing the only win for the AFC South this week. The Texans take on the stout Denver Broncos and the Titans have the Bills. The Bills are coming off a great week 1 performance against the 2021 championship LA Rams.

    Colts and Jags

    Colts and Jags

On paper, the Colts should be able to beat the Jags well enough to erase any doubt that Week 1 was a fluke. This isn’t paper, though – it’s football. The Jags looked like a decent team last week despite a 4th quarter collapse. Ironically, the Colts squeaked out a tie because of their 4th quarter rally. This should end up being a mildly entertaining matchup, but the Jags defense is going to struggle to contain the Colts ground game led by Jonathan Taylor. Trevor Lawrence will have a decent game and keep the Jags in it for the first half, but ultimately the Colts win this one by 10.

    Texans Take on the Broncos

It’s no secret that the Texans played better than they were expected to last week against the Colts. Many fans had the Colts beating them soundly, but the Texans had other plans. Texans’ fans should hesitate to put too much stock in the tie, though. The Broncos didn’t look great in their opener, but there is still a ton of talent on that team, and the Texans are still the Texans. Expect the Texans to return to form and lose by 14.

    Titans and the Bills

titans billsIt’s true, the Titans beat the Bills last year in a thrilling overtime game. It’s also true that the Titans lost against the Giants in Week 1 and never looked great outside of a couple of drives throughout the game. Confidence would be higher if the Titans had blown out the Giants like they should have, but here we are anyways. Additionally, the Bills made the Rams look like they had no business winning a championship last year, and the Rams are a very good team. That being said, the Titans also have an identity that is rarely talked about – they beat good teams but lose to the really, really bad ones. The Titans’ fan in me wants to say the Titans win this one by 3 with a late game Randy Bullock redemption field goal. The realist in me wants to say the Titans lose by 20.

    The Final Word

It’s going to be a tough week for the AFC South. Two teams are taking on playoff teams that some analysts considered to be contenders. (Albeit it some ambitious analysts in the Broncos case). The Colts should beat the Jags. If the Texans and Titans pull off upsets, maybe the division can shake off the Week 1 title of worst division in the NFL.
