Adam Schefter is one of the most well known names in sports journalism.  His massive following and insider knowledge often make him the primary source of NFL teams communicating with the public.

However, Schefter could be looking at a new career in the near future.

In addition to knowing football like the back of his hand, Adam Schefter also knows basketball pretty well. There’s a clip from last September that’s making the rounds again:

“I’m going to take the New York Knicks versus the Oklahoma City Thunder, and I’m going to crown Oklahoma as the new NBA champion,” Schefter said during an appearance on NBA Today.

He even joked and said, “And if they do go ahead and win it, I will officially be applying to take over Woj’s job and become the new NBA insider.”

That moment happened on the same day Adrian Wojnarowski announced his retirement from ESPN. Of course, Shams Charania later stepped into that role. Still, Schefter might want to keep a résumé handy- just in case.

The Thunder officially punched their ticket to the NBA Finals after dismantling the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-94 in Game 5 on Wednesday. Oklahoma City didn’t just win, they dominated. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 34 points and took home Western Conference Finals MVP honors with a unanimous vote. His impact was clear from the opening minutes, as the Thunder jumped to a 26-9 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

This wasn’t a fluke. The Thunder rolled through the West all season and maintained that edge through the playoffs. After a tough seven-game battle with Denver, they regrouped and swarmed the Timberwolves. Their depth, defense, and relentless pace proved too much. Even Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams showed up big, combining for 41 points.

Now, only four wins separate Oklahoma City from the title. The Knicks, Schefter’s other pick, trail the Indiana Pacers 3-1 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Unless they mount a comeback, that part of the prediction will fall short. But his call on the Thunder? That’s aging remarkably well.

So, could Schefter be onto something beyond the gridiron? He was half-joking, but if the Thunder bring home the trophy, maybe ESPN should at least give him a guest spot on NBA Countdown. Because right now, his NBA Finals bracket looks better than most.
