Adam Schefter dropped a bombshell about the Houston Texans draft plans on NFL Live yesterday. While everyone assumes the Texans will be taking a quarterback, some are convinced that the team will go in a different direction. While this has mostly been speculation, hearing Schefter talk about it gives this rumor some traction.
The #Texans aren't a lock to take a QB with the 2nd overall pick, @AdamSchefter shares on NFL Live.

Adam Schefter Talks Houston Texans Plans For NFL Draft
Schefter is “not convinced yet that they’re going to take a quarterback.” This would be a huge surprise. The Texans need to upgrade the position and there are multiple high-level prospects at the top of the draft. However, there are also some high-level defensive prospects that could easily be taken at number two. The Texans could also trade out and gain more draft capital for future years. They have a lot of options and may be exploring those options more.
The Case For Not Drafting A Quarterback
I actually really like this plan. The AFC is loaded right now. The Texans are not going to compete this year. It is better to set up for the future now rather than try to compete right away. Davis Mills was a serviceable quarterback last season. While I don’t see him as a long-term starter, he won’t be a detriment to the development of the team. Next year’s quarterback class includes Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, two prospects that analysts are already high on. If they don’t love any of the players now, they could wait and grab someone next year.
Trading out of the pick would also be a good strategy for them. Gaining more draft capital for next year gives the flexibility to either gain more players or move up in the draft in case they overperform and are not in a position to get a top quarterback. Adam Schefter seems to think the Houston Texans may not draft a quarterback and it might make the most sense.
