NFL free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers has to figure things out on his own and in his own time. At least, this is what one former Steeler thinks of the concerns surrounding the future of Rodgers in the NFL.

For former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, fans should cut Aaron Rodgers some slack and let him figure things out at his own pace.

“I’m not sure what the pulse of the fan base is, I’m sure there are some people who are still holding out hope and there are other people who are just like, ‘Go. If he wanted to be here, he would have been here by now,” he said. “He said on Pat’s show that he has some personal issues he’s working on. I have no idea what’s going on, but let the man figure out what he needs to do and go from there.”

For now, Aaron Rodgers remains without a team. He has been heavily rumored to be in talks with the Steelers, but no official word has come from either side yet.

NFL Schedule Seemingly Confirms Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers, Analyst Points Out

Based on the released schedule of games for the 2025 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers will open their 2025 NFL season with a Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, September 7. For one analyst, this could confirm that Aaron Rodgers is indeed becoming a Steeler.

NFL analyst Rich Eisen pointed this out and concluded that this could be more than just a coincidence or a stroke of luck for fans.

“It does appear that the NFL believes Aaron Rodgers will be the starting quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Eisen said. “Otherwise, why would they put they put the Steelers in the home of the New York Jets Week 1?”

Aside from the potential debut of Rodgers as a Steeler, Justin Fields, who played for the Steelers last season, will then be leading the Jets, making it a double-revenge game.

Rodgers’ departure from the New York Jets was considered ignoble due to a combination of disappointing performance, injuries, and organizational shifts.

East Rutherford, NJ — October 14, 2024 — Allen Lazard of the Jets scored a TD in the first half on a pass from Aaron Rodgers. The Buffalo Bills came to MetLife Stadium to play the NY Jets. The Jets played their first game under new interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich.

His time with the Jets ended after just one full season, during which he threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in a lackluster 5-12 campaign. His first season was even more disastrous, as he suffered a ruptured Achilles just four snaps into his debut game against the Buffalo Bills, sidelining him for the rest of the year.

Whether Aaron Rodgers retires or finds a new team, his departure from the Jets remains one of the most dramatic quarterback exits in recent NFL history.
