There is no question that former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be a first ballot Hall of Famer when he finally decides to call it a career. A four-time NFL MVP and one-time Super Bowl Champion, Rodgers boasts a resume that is envied by most quarterbacks in league history.

That being said, he has not always been portrayed in a positive light, especially over the past five or six years. Now, after being cut by the Jets earlier this offseason, many fans and media members are awaiting his decision on whether he will retire or sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Given his reputation and controversial opinions (that he is not afraid to share), many feel that Pittsburgh would be better off without the former MVP quarterback.

ESPN’s Michael Wilbon Says Aaron Rodgers Has Not Been a Relevant Quarterback for 4 or 5 Years

In recent days, Rodgers has gone viral for, once again, sharing some of his controversial opinions, this time on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Among these, the former Green Bay quarterback claimed that the government fed conspiracy theorist Alex Jones false information and doctored video tapes of the Sandy Hook shooting, which left 20 children and six teachers dead.

“He’s been right so many times, they had to shut him up,” Rodgers said. Jones was ordered to pay $1.1 billion in damages to the families of victims who sued him for claiming the tragedy was staged.

Despite his beliefs, it appears that the Steelers still very much want Rodgers to sign with them. ESPN’s Michael Wilbon believes that this would be a mistake, and that they should not allow him “anywhere near the building.”

Speaking on ESPN’s “Get Up,” on Friday, Wilbon continued, “What are we talking about? Do people look at actually what happens in sports? Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been a relevant quarterback in the NFL for four or five seasons. The hallmark of the Pittsburgh Steelers is not stupidity. It’s a smart organization that makes right moves over the decades. And they’re going to bring Aaron Rodgers, with all his drama, into that room?”

While one can certainly understand why Wilbon would be concerned about the distractions and baggage that come with Rodgers, there is one part of his argument that is not accurate.

He stated that Rodgers has not been relevant for “four or five seasons.” Rodgers won the NFL MVP Award four years ago and five years ago while he was still playing for the Packers.
