‘Money’ A ‘Significant Sticking Point’: For Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh Steelers (Report)

Aaron Rodgers made it appear like money wasn’t that big of an issue for him in his decision to return to the NFL in 2025. After all, the four-time NFL MVP gave up $35 million so he could join the New York Jets.

Per Spotrac, Rodgers has made $381 million in his NFL career.

How much more does he need?

Apparently a lot more if he’s going to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rodgers is the Steelers’ first choice as QB1 in free agency, but the team will opt to bring back Russell Wilson if Rodgers doesn’t drop his price.

“It’s possible Russell Wilson could return to the Steelers if ongoing discussions with Aaron Rodgers fail to result in a financial agreement, per multiple sources,” Dulac posted on X.

    Money is a “sticking point”

As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, Dulac’s report means there are ongoing negotiations at this point between Rodgers’ camp and the Steelers.

“On the surface, that’s a fairly obvious statement,” Florio posted about Wilson’s potential return. “Yes, it’s possible that a team with few other options will bring back its quarterback from 2024. Embedded within it is news: The Steelers and Rodgers are negotiating, with money currently a significant sticking point.”

Rodgers’ agent has every right to try and get as much out of the Steelers as possible, especially if that’s what Rodgers wants.

At 41, one would think Rodgers would be worried less about contract money and more about trying to win a Super Bowl with the next team he plays for. That could mean taking less money.

One wonders why Rodgers is choosing to come back at all, given his interests outside of football.

Maybe Rodgers is more about the money than he thinks.
