A New Team Joins the Race for the AFC East Title
The AFC East title has gone to only two teams in the last 13 years, The New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills. 11 seasons straight of seeing the Patriots win the division with one of the greatest QBs of all time, Tom Brady. With Brady out of the AFC East and the Jets entering a rebuild the division title was up for grabs. The Bills quickly took advantage winning back-to-back division titles with Josh Allen taking massive strides every season. However, the offseason frenzy with stars getting traded almost every week has helped a new team emerge into the race.
How the Miami Dolphins entered the AFC East Race..
The Miami Dolphins took advantage of this offseason to help get them back in the race for a division title. The biggest turnaround the Dolphins made was trading for 6-time pro bowler Tyreek Hill. An offense that ranked 22nd in the league in points scored now have two of the fastest players in the NFL on the same team. This new speedy duo opens a lot of new plays and schemes for Miami and creates nightmares for opposing defenses. In a Mike McDaniel offense, we saw Deebo Samuel transform from a star wide receiver to one of the most versatile superstar players in the NFL. He has proven in his time in San Francisco that coach McDaniel can help players get to the next level of their potential. When asked about Tyreek Hill Coach McDaniel stated:
“As far as exact ways that we will use Tyreek Hill relative to the way that Deebo Samuel was used in San Francisco, there’s probably going to be some overlap to some degree. But those are things that Deebo Samuel evolved into that role because of both circumstance and skillset while in San Francisco. I expect no difference, really, with Tyreek, where we are going to start with the foundational elements of the receiver position. I promise you we’re not going to limit — or we’re going to continue the process of developing him and the Miami Dolphins football team.”
Miami continued to improved their offensive by adding 3-time pro bowl tackle Terron Armstead. Miami’s offensive line allowed 40 sacks last season ranking them in the bottom half in the league last season. With a newly built offensive line and the addition of Tyreek Hill this new offense will take a huge leaps compared to last season.
The 2020 Draft Class QB Race
The race for the AFC title is going to be a close one but it’s not the only race NFL fans should pay attention to. The pressure is building for Miami’s QB Tua Tagovailoa to elevate his game to the next level. After seeing the success of Joe Burrow leading the Bengals to the Superbowl and Justin Herbert coming off a 5,000 yard passing season. Tua has the chance to be the first QB in his draft class to lead their team to a division title and can finally give him a slight edge over his draft class.
The Miami Dolphins have put themselves in a position to win now and compete for the next few years. If Tua can get to the next level with a new head coach, some new playmakers, and a defense looking to be back in the top 10 the Dolphins are officially in the race for an AFC East division title.
