The New York Giants enter the 2025 season with expectations to win internally, and people externally think that they won’t be a very good football team. With that being said, there were many changes to this roster in the offseason.

One of the biggest changes that New York made was fixing its quarterback room. Russell Wilson is going to be the starting quarterback and Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston will also be on the roster. A season ago, Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock, and Tim Boyle were the quarterbacks on the Giants roster. It is a major upgrade from what they had. Is there a chance that New York can potentially shock people in 2025?
PFF Thinks That the New York Giants Can Be a Playoff Team During the 2025 NFL Season

Pro Football Focus writer Dalton Wasserman wrote about the Giants preview for the upcoming 2025 NFL season. Obviously for now, the quarterback spotlight is going to be on Wilson. Wasserman said about Wilson,
”
- 2024 PFF Grade: 79.5
- Key Stat: 97.3 deep passing grade, the best in the NFL (min. 20 attempts)
After missing the first six weeks of last season due to injury, Russell Wilson helped guide the Steelers to the playoffs with steady, efficient play. His signature deep ball remained a strength. His 97.3 passing grade on throws of 20-plus air yards led all qualified quarterbacks. Wilson also continued to take care of the football, tying Lamar Jackson for the second-lowest turnover-worthy play rate (1.6%) among qualified passers.”
During the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Wilson is 36 years old, and many are wondering how long he is going to hold off Dart for.
Wasserman also made an interesting take about the Giants before the 2025 season and said,
“The Giants have a wealth of defensive potential and a significantly improved quarterback situation. If their offensive line can find a way to improve upon last season’s poor performance, New York is a dark-horse playoff contender. If that unit doesn’t perform well, the offense could stagnate too often for them to win games.”
Wilson has no doubt changed the attitude and the culture in the Giants locker room during training camp and the preseason as well. New York went 3-0 in the preseason, and they dominated the competition. The schedule for this franchise is very tough for them no doubt. With that being said, there is going to be a lot of people sleeping on the Giants this season.
They could be closer than people think. They finished 3-14 last season. Remember when the Washington Commanders were in last place in the NFC East two years ago and just went to the NFC title game? Well, maybe the Giants could sneak up on people like that. They also haven’t won the NFC East since the 2011 season also.
