Atlanta Falcons: Land 3-Game Starter to Boost Offensive Tackle Depth

The Atlanta Falcons needed to address their offensive tackle depth following significant injuries to their swing tackle and right tackle. Storm Norton recently underwent ankle surgery and is expected to miss six to eight weeks, making him a prime injured reserve candidate. Meanwhile, Kaleb McGary sustained a lower-leg injury that will sideline him for a significant amount of time, also making him a candidate to start the season on injured reserve.

With Elijah Wilkinson slotted as the Falcons’ starting right tackle and Michael Penix Jr.’s blindside blocker, their remaining offensive tackle depth is thin. They could benefit from an upgrade over Jack Nelson and Brandon Parker.

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Michael Jerrell 207th overall in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He began his rookie season as the third-string offensive tackle but started three games at right tackle following the injuries to the position. Jerrell allowed 15 pressures, ten hurries, two quarterback hits, and three sacks while posting a 54.8 pass-blocking grade, a 49.5 run-blocking grade, and a 46.4 PFF grade across ten games and 250 offensive snaps.

He competed against Josh Jones for the swing tackle role during the offseason but ultimately lost.
