The Miami Hurricanes have many young stars on their team. A few of these bright future players have earned a starting role this season, while some will have to wait for next year to be a starter. After a dominating win against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 35-14, I list five Hurricanes who will be bright future players for the University of Miami.
5 Miami Bright Future Players
Wesley Bissainthe, LB
Freshman linebacker Wesley Bissainthe has filled up a position of need for the Hurricanes. The former Miami Central product brings elite speed to one of the slower linebacker groups in college football. The linebacker is one of the many bright future players on the team, and he’s already making a difference.

After being named the starter in week 11 against Georgia Tech, Wesley recorded 20 total tackles (14 solo, 6 assisted) this season. PFF ranks his performance with a 78.1 grade, second for all freshman linebackers. While Wesley hasn’t put up big numbers on the stat sheet, his film shows how great of a linebacker he is. Wesley’s ability to cover tight ends and slot receivers up the seams is something not many linebackers can do. His future at Miami is bright, especially when being coached by a great coach like Charlie Strong.
Ahead of the game against Clemson, Miami ranks 38th in rushing defense according to the NCAA. With Wesley at the helm of the defense, Miami will have a chance to hold the No. 44th-ranked rushing attack.
Anez Cooper, OG
Freshman guard Anez Cooper was forced into the starting lineup after multiple injuries to Miami’s offensive line. The former 3-star offensive lineman from Pleasant Grove High (AL) originally wanted to play on the defensive line for the Miami Hurricanes, but a change of heart brought him on offense. Cooper was originally a 400-pound senior in high school but has been able to cut down to the 340-350 pounds range. Getting his body right has made him a better player.

Anez has been a much-needed piece for the Hurricanes’ offensive line. He’s a maniacal run defender who doesn’t back down from anyone. PFF grades him as the 6th best freshman offensive lineman, with a 71.7 grade. The future remains bright for Cooper as he continues to develop under one of the best offensive-line coaching staffs in the country.
Jaccuri Brown, QB
Freshman quarterback Jaccuri Brown got his first start of the season in week 11 against Georgia Tech, leading the Canes to a 35-14 victory. Brown showed why Cristobal and the staff were so high on him, as he demonstrated his dual-threat ability, as he was able to for 87 yards on 19 carries for an average of 4.6 yards. While he still needs to work on his accuracy, Brown showed he has the ability to throw the ball deep. Brown went 14/19 on his passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns. With uncertainty about whether Tyler Van Dyke will be ready for Saturday, Brown will face his biggest test of the season against the Clemson Tigers.

With how this season has played out, Tyler Van Dyke will most likely return for another year, forcing Brown to take the bench. That may not be all that bad, as sitting for a year will allow him to better develop as a passer, so when the time comes, he will be a complete dual threat for the Miami Hurricanes.
Colbie Young, WR
The former JUCO prospect from Lackawanna Community College emerged after injuries depleted the wide receiver corps. He broke out against Virginia Tech, hauling in nine catches for 101 yards and an incredible one-handed touchdown snag. So far this season, Young has caught 27 passes, for 342 yards and five touchdowns. He’s first on the team in yards and touchdowns while being second in receptions.

Colbie Young is far from a polish player, but his athletic upside and constant production show promise of the player he can become. His potential is through the rough, as he has the ability to emerge as an elite wide receiver.
Darrell Jackson, DL
Maryland defensive tackle transfer Darrell Jackson has been a force in the interior this season for the Canes. So far this season, he has 24 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks. What’s even better is Jackson hasn’t scratched his full potential yet. He continues to improve as the season continues.

Darrell Jackson offers upside with his size (6’6 300 lbs) and quickness. He’s an excellent run stuffer who has a good nose for the football. If Jackson can develop his pass rush, he will be the next great defensive tackle to come out of Miami.
