The San Francisco 49ers lost the NFC Championship after the rookie quarterback, Brock Purdy went down with an elbow injury early in the game. Following the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, 49ers linebacker Fred Warner discussed how much this loss hurt, especially compared to the other 49ers’ shortcomings. The 49ers linebacker discussed one part of the loss that hurt was losing one of their most beloved coaching staff members.

    49ers Linebacker Statements

In the post-game conference, not only did Warner discuss the tough loss, he explained to the media why this one hurt so much. Warner made the statement,

“seeing [DeMeco Ryans} was emotional. It was the first time it kind of hit me that this was the last one with him. We came in together, I owe everything to him. He’s the reason I’m the player I am today. He’s fully deserving to go on and be a head coach”

The entire press conference can be found here, on the San Francisco 49ers Youtube channel.

Ryans has been with the team since 2017 when he came in as the defensive quality control coach. The 49ers linebacker, Fred Warner spent a lot of time with Ryans, as he was the linebackers coach for three years. The 49ers had the top defense in the league this year, and Ryans was a big part of it.

This past week it has been discussed heavily that 49ers defensive coordinator, DeMeco Ryans will become the Houston Texans, next head coach. Following the game, Ian Rappoport tweeted out that Ryans is expected to meet with the Texans again this week for a second interview.

With the #49ers season over, defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans will visit Houston this week for a second interview and if all goes well, he’s expected to become the #Texans new head coach.

The 49ers’ defense was the best it has been this year. Ryans has done a great job with this team, and it is unfortunate he had to go out with a loss in a game that meant so much. The 49ers linebacker, Fred Warner will remain with the team, but who the next defensive coordinator will be is still up in the air.

The 49ers lost the game 31-7, putting their crazy season to an end.
