3 Shocking Replacements For Amari Cooper If He Doesn’t Want To Play For The Cleveland Browns This Season

Cleveland Browns star wide receiver Amari Cooper has been a no-show to mandatory offseason workouts. He is holding out because his current contract is in its last year, and he wants a new deal. Reports are that the Browns are not willing to give Cooper a long-term deal since he is 30 years of age, and that is the time we see a lot of NFL players hit the wall in their careers, so if Cooper holds out for a long period the Browns are going to have to make some move at wide receiver and here are three moves they could make.

    1. Hunter Renfrow

Hunter Renfrow will be cut by Las Vegas Raiders to free up $13.7 million against the cap.
Hunter Renfrow will be cut by Las Vegas Raiders to free up $13.7 million against the cap.

After spending five seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, Hunter Renfrow is a free agent. In 2021, he was named to his first and only Pro Bowl after recording over 1,038 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. The only issue is Renfrow has not been the same player since 2021, only recording 585 revising yards and two scores in 27 games since his Pro Bowl season.

The only reason the Browns would make this move is that Renfrow played college football at Clemson with quarterback Deshaun Watson. He could be a nice security blanket for Watson since they know how to play together well.

    2. Brandon Aiyuk

The San Franciso 49ers have handled the Brandon Aiyuk situation very weirdly this offseason. Many reports and rumors had him being traded before the NFL Draft, and they never made the move, even after drafting wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in the first round.

Aiyuk is just like Amari Cooper, who is seeking a new contract. Since the 49ers don’t want to pay Aiyuk, a trade between the two teams could happen. They could take Cooper for the season and then let him walk, and the Browns could try to sign Aiyuk to a long-term deal.

    3. Michael Thomas

Michael Thomas took the league by storm in 2018 and 2019 and was named an NFL All-Pro in both seasons. He even took home the 2019 AP Offensive Player of the Year. However, he has only played 20 games since 2019 due to injury. In his last season, he appeared in 10 games, recording 448 yards and one score.
Thomas was released by the New Orleans Saints this offseason but has not reached a deal with any team. He could be a cheap option, and even though he can’t stay healthy, the Browns just need him to be a body on the field until they can figure out the Amari Cooper contract.
It couldn’t hurt to sign Thomas and see what he could bring. It probably won’t be much, but you will never know unless you try.

Amari Cooper Is The Passing Attack For Cleveland

Hopefully, Amari Cooper and the Browns will work out a deal soon because he is the most important part of the passing game, and if he has to miss a few games, the team could take a giant step back.
