The Kansas City Chiefs received much-needed help from the NFL for the upcoming season with an extra draft pick. The Chiefs have been busy following their Super Bowl win, trying to figure out their cap situation before free agency.
The Kansas City Chiefs can’t afford much in free agency
Per Over The Cap, the Chiefs have a little over $1 million in space for the 2024 season with a few days before free agency. The Chiefs need that money to sign free agents and draft picks. The team recently applied the franchise tag to cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
The Chiefs are expected to trade Sneed if they cannot agree to a long-term deal, which is looking increasingly likely with Kansas City’s cap issues. Star defensive tackle Chris Jones is set to head to free agency unless the Chiefs can strike a midnight deal this weekend.
The Chiefs are getting relief for the 2024 NFL Draft
With glaring holes on the roster, the league gave the Chiefs some big-time relief. According to a statement by the league, they awarded the Chiefs a fifth-round pick for April. The Chiefs now own the 172-overall pick in the 2024 draft as compensation for losing a player to free agency.

The Chiefs have several options in the later rounds. They could consider adding secondary talent to develop their defense. They also need to add help to pass-catching and offensive line positions for the future.
