The Texas Longhorns are expecting another tough, but big win over the challenging Oklahoma Sooners this weekend.
The Red River Rivalry now makes the walk over to the SEC as Texas and Oklahoma clash in a conference battle. Texas is a perfect 5-0 this season and while starting quarterback Quinn Ewers may have suffered an injury previously, the quarterback is good to go against the Sooners.
Ewers missed the last three games with an upper body injury and allowed backup Arch Manning to take over the starting duties. As the Longhorns remained perfect, Ewers healed and is now ready to jump back into competition against a heated rival. Oklahoma lost their opening SEC game against the Tennessee Volunteers, and then defeated the Auburn Tigers during the second conference clash.
The Longhorns faced off against a lousy Mississippi State Bulldogs team and managed to defeat them with Manning starting. Texas is in a must-win situation not only due to the rivalry implications but also as insurance for the upcoming Georgia Bulldogs game next week.
If the Texas Longhorns were to lose this week and next, that would really hurt the college football playoff hopes of the team. However, a win this week with a fully healthy team against a banged-up Sooners squad could help develop more momentum. The Bulldogs have proved to be vulnerable this season, dropping one game and nearly losing another.
Texas Longhorns Could Make Red River Rivalry Ugly With Quinn Ewers Returning
While the Oklahoma Sooners might be prepared for a tough rivalry battle, the Longhorns seemed prepared to take down a conference opponent.
The Sooners have gone through the past two games with a slew of injuries to both the receiving room and the offensive line. With many changes occurring, the Sooners might not be able to keep the game competitive against a Longhorns team now at full strength. The Longhorns may have injuries of their own, but Ewers returning is a massive boost the team has needed.
Oklahoma defeated the Auburn Tigers in their second SEC clash in school history but allowed 338 yards passing in the process. The Sooners struggled against quarterback Payton Thorne and also allowed Tulane quarterback Darian Mensah to have success throwing the ball. Ewers could potentially tear open the Sooners defense this weekend during his return to the starting role.
The Longhorns fans, in particular, seem to think that Texas has the Red River Rivalry in the bag this season against an ailing team.

I feel like either Texas wins by 40 or Oklahoma wins by 3. There’s no in-between in this game.
