The main headlines for the New York Jets have once again concerned franchise quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who is taking unexcused leave from mandatory minicamp in order to take an overseas vacation.
Aaron Rodgers Making Headlines For The New York Jets Once More
Although the Jets have seemingly known about the trip for some time, as it was reportedly planned well in advance, the NFL does not permit teams to excuse players from minicamp for planned trips.
As a result, whilst much of what happens on the Jets’ side of New York seems to occasionally resemble borderline chaos, this feels like one small non-issue being blown out of proportion.
The New York Jets Have More Moves To Be Made On The Horizon
However, onto happier news for the Jets, it is now been reported that they are signing former 1st round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Takkarist, McKinley, per New York NFL insider, Connor Hughes.
Sources: The #Jets are signing Takkarist McKinley, who was with the team at minicamp on a tryout.

The New York Jets Sign Pass Rusher, Takkarist McKinley To A 1 Year Deal
On the face of it, you probably would not list defensive line as a position of need for the New York Jets.
Having drafted back-to-back 1st rounder edge rushers in 2022 and 2023 in Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald IV, and subsequently traded for All-Pro, Haason Reddick, the Jets are pretty well stocked in the EDGE department.
Yet, head coach, Robert Saleh, and general manager, Joe Douglas, are likely playing by what is a smart adage: you can never have too many good pass rushers.
Many will remember McKinley’s first two seasons in the league, where he impressed in compiling a combined 13 sacks in his debut years after being selected with the 26th overall pick in 2017.
Instead of having a breakout, double-digit year in 2019, however, he only managed to compile a total of 3.5 sacks, although he did set career highs in combined, solo and assisted tackles.
Since bouncing around from team to team, mostly on practice squads, it seemed like he may have finally called it quits after being released by the Dallas Cowboys in June 2023.
Now he has an opportunity with the Jets to reignite what was once a very promising career, and at 28, he likely has more than enough juice still in the tank.
