Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have done a lot of winning on the field in recent seasons, as the franchise opens the 2024 campaign among the favorites to win the Super Bowl, which would be a record-setting third consecutive Lombardi Trophy.
Last season, Mahomes‘ heroics in the Super Bowl — and throughout the postseason, were a catalyst to the Chiefs ultimately knocking off the San Francisco 49ers, in overtime, for a second consecutive Super Bowl championship. The Chiefs’ receiving corps was far from a strength, and ultimately wound up leading the league in dropped passes last season.
That could change in a major way in 2024.
Kansas City Chiefs’ Reason for Optimism in 2024 Revealed

General Manager Brett Veach, head coach Andy Reid, and the Kansas City Chiefs have been among the league’s best at continually bolstering the talent around Mahomes in recent years. This past offseason may prove to be the most vital of all.
A centerpiece of Veach, Reid and the Chiefs’ plan and philosophy this offseason was overhauling the receiving corps around Mahomes, including adding veteran Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and trading up to select University of Texas burner Xavier Worthy in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Pro Football Focus’ Dalton Wasserman put together a list of each team’s biggest reason to be optimistic for the season ahead, including the Chiefs going all in on the roster’s most glaring weakness throughout the offseason.
“Wide receiver and offensive tackle are two of the premier positions in the modern NFL,” Wasserman points out for PFF. “The Chiefs found a way to win another championship despite their wide receivers ranking 26th in receiving grade and their tackles ranking 29th in overall grade. We know they can win consistently as long as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Steve Spagnuolo exist, but there’s no reason for the Chiefs to rest on their laurels.
“They certainly didn’t do that this offseason, especially at wide receiver, where they added speedsters Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy in an attempt to reignite the deep passing game. They didn’t make a volume of moves at offensive tackle, but second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia is the big name to watch as he competes with Wanya Morris for the starting left tackle job. If Kansas City significantly improved at wide receiver and offensive tackle, a three-peat is very much on the table.”
The Chiefs’ offense has the potential to be much more explosive this season, which is bad news for the rest of the NFL, and potentially the chance to unleash the most prolific version of Patrick Mahomes we’ve seen to date.
