Thanks to trading All-Pro cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and the Chiefs are going to lean heavily on Trent McDuffie to continue on his upward trajectory and former seventh-round pick Jaylen Watson to soften some of the blow from losing Sneed.
Meanwhile, at safety, the Chiefs may be primed to field one of the NFL’s most surprising breakout stars to watch across the league.

NFL analyst Gordon McGuinness put together an All-Breakout Team for the upcoming 2024 season, with one of the Chiefs’ emerging defenders making the cut.
McGuinness lists Chamarri Conner as the safety on his All-Breakout Team.
“Conner was on the field for 20 or more snaps every week,” McGuinness points out for PFF. “From Week 14 through the Super Bowl. He finished his rookie season with a 78.4 PFF coverage grade, ranking 13th at the position, and saw time both at safety and in the slot.”
Conner took on an expanded role down the stretch last season, and proved plenty capable of showing out in meaningful snaps.
Finishing the 2023 season with 36 total tackles, one interception, and one pass breakup, Conner will have the chance to climb the depth chart during training camp and the preseason this summer. If the former fourth-round pick out of Virginia Tech continues to build on his strong rookie season, and even more impactful second season could be on tap for Conner.
