The Kansas City Chiefs had a positive update for defensive end BJ Thompson on Friday following a traumatic day for the 2023 fifth-round pick. The Chiefs canceled all of their team activities on Thursday following Thompson’s medical scare during a special teams meeting.
The Kansas City Chiefs had a health emergency Thursday morning
As previously discussed on GH, Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network reported Thompson was hospitalized following a medical emergency:
defensive lineman BJ Thompson suffered a seizure during a special teams meeting and went into cardiac arrest, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per sources.
Kansas City’s medical staff worked quickly before an ambulance was called, and Thompson is currently in stable condition, Pelissero added.
The Chiefs announced earlier Thursday that the day’s OTA session was cancelled following a medical emergency that occurred at the team facility.
BJ Thompson was unconscious Thursday night
Per an update Thursday night by Thompson’s agent, Chris Turnage, Thompson remained in the hospital. Thompson was unconscious Thursday night:
“BJ is still unconscious at this point, but he’s stable and vitals are good. His family asks for your continued prayers.”
Thompson is awake on Friday
Per Pelissero, Thompson had a better update Friday morning:
A positive update: #Chiefs DE BJ Thompson is awake and responsive, according to his agent, Chris Turnage.
The Chiefs were set to host their third practice of the week on Thursday. The practice was the final one scheduled before mandatory minicamp begins next week.
