The Miami Dolphins season was derailed when Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in Week 2. The Dolphins were 2-4 before Tua would return to play the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 27.
Losses for Miami mounted when quarterbacks Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson, and Tim Boyle took the field. While Tua would lead the team to six more wins after their loss to the Cardinals, the Dolphins’ 8-9 record was not enough to reach the playoffs.
Questions surfaced last season on Miami’s decision not to provide the roster with better backup, especially given Tua’s history with concussions. On Monday, the Dolphins tried to correct that mistake.
The Miami Dolphins are set to have a solid backup QB for Tua

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins agreed to a deal with former New York Jets and Denver Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson on a one-year deal that has the potential to become a $10 million contract.
“Sources: former Broncos QB Zach Wilson reached agreement on a one-year, $6 million, fully-guaranteed deal that could grow to $10 million with the Miami Dolphins,” Schefter wrote.
The Jets selected Wilson with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft. He spent 2024 with head coach Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos. He’s thrown for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions in the league. He didn’t play a snap for Denver in 2024.
Dolphins fans react to Zach Wilson’s new deal

“I don’t hate it. I’ve never been a fan of Zach Wilson but taking a swing on a former high pick at QB is a swing worth taking, especially with a make-or-break year for the org Would a backup QB have been my first choice to spend money on? No lol, still don’t hate it” wrote a fan.
“He’s better then tua be happy,” wrote another.
“Time go to 3-14 because no oline again,” suggested a fan.
“Unserious franchise,” posted another.
“Good back up pick up,” believes a fan.
“I don’t mind Zach Wilson. He’s about as cheap as you can get for a backup QB that offers his upside,” suggested another.
