“You Better Have a Damn Good Reason!” – Texas Tech Red Raiders Fans Upset Following Brutal Former 5-Star Portal Entry

The Texas Tech Red Raiders lost perhaps the highest-rated player on the team to the transfer portal in a rather brutal move for the fans.

Micah Hudson, a former five-star recruit in the 2024 class, was the eighth-leading receiver for the Red Raiders with 123-yards. The wide receiver had eight receptions and was largely not a big part of the offense during his first season on campus. Unfortunately for the Red Raiders, the lack of playing time upset Hudson and has now led to his departure.

The Red Raiders are currently 8-4 this season with plenty of potential moving forward, however, it will be without the talented wide receiver. Hudson is the second major wide receiver to enter the transfer portal with NC State receiver Kevin Concepcion also joining. Hudson is also considered to be the third-overall transfer portal entry at this time and should have offers from nearly every program.

Hudson is a Texas native with very close ties to both the Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies programs. Both the Longhorns and Aggies are going to be programs to watch, but another major player is likely going to be the Ohio State Buckeyes. Hudson previously visited campus during his high school recruitment and had considered the Buckeyes to be a top program at the time.

While Hudson is excited about his decision and rightfully deserves to be, the Texas Tech Red Raiders fans have a much different feelings towards the situation.

Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire recorded the 26th ranked class during the 2024 cycle with Hudson being the headlining recruit. Losing Hudson particularly hurts as the wide receiver was part of a greater plan for the team involving 2025 receiver commitment Tristian Gentry.

The Red Raiders staff will now have to pivot and go back to the drawing board as Hudson is likely not the last player to leave. Texas Tech is bound to make some staff changes this offseason below McGuire and the shakeup of those movements could cause a shift of players going in and out of the program.
