Another week, another stifling defensive showing from the Wolverines. This game marks the fifth time in six weeks that the Wolverine’s defense has given up 14 points or less. With a dominating 31-10 win over the Indiana Hoosiers. On top of another great defensive performance, there was another great game on the ground for Blake Corum, who continues to push his way into contention for the Heisman trophy. However, unlike the game against Iowa last week, the passing game looked good as well with J.J. McCarthy returning to form.
Wolverine’s Offensive Stars
Watching the game there were three players who really stood out offensively. First was Blake Corum, Corum continues to run through defenses week in and week out, this time rushing 25 times for 124 yards and a touchdown, including a 50 yard rush that led to a touchdown on the next play. This game marked his third straight game rushing for over 100 yards, and added to his touchdown total which now sits at 11 on the season.
The second player who stood out was J.J. McCarthy, after struggling against Iowa, McCarthy bounced back in a big way, completing 28 of 36 passing attempts for 304 yards and three touchdowns, as he looked more like the McCarthy we saw early in the season.
Finally, the third offensive player who stood out today was wide receiver Ronnie Bell. Bell torched the Hoosiers defense with 11 catches for 121 yards, and looked unstoppable all game.
Wolverine’s Defensive Stars
This was another game where the entire defense deserves to make this list, but especially the front seven of the Wolverines, who produced seven sacks by seven different players and played overall stout defense against the Hoosiers offensive line, allowing only a net 19 yards rushing yards throughout the game. The Wolverine’s seven sacks came from Michael Barrett, Jaylen Harrell, Mike Morris, Junior Colson, Eyabi Okie, Derrick Moore, and Braiden McGregor, and on top of the sacks, the defense intercepted Hoosiers quarterback Connor Bazelak once, with Rod Moore being the player to do it.
