The Wisconsin Badgers starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has gone down with an injury and appears to be in danger of missing the season.
Van Dyke rushed to the right side of the field before getting hit by an Alabama Crimson Tide defender, pushing him out of bounds. The quarterback grabbed for his knee and was then removed from the game as he entered the injury tent. Backup quarterback Braedyn Locke is in the game now and might be the starter moving forward after the injury.
Wisconsin Badgers Starting Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke Suffers Knee Injury Against #4 Alabama Crimson Tide
The Wisconsin football team could be without their starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke for the remainder of the season after the quarterback suffered a knee injury. The Badgers were driving against the Alabama Crimson Tide when the quarterback rushed to his right and was tackled. Upon being tackled, Van Dyke reached for his knee and did not get off the ground for some time.
The quarterback was taken to the injury tent for evaluation before being carted to the locker room for further tests. Van Dyke could not apply any pressure to his right leg after the hit and had to be carted due to the severity of the injury. Van Dyke previously injured the same knee during his tenure with the Miami Hurricanes football program.
Backup quarterback Braedyn Locke is now in the game against the tough Alabama squad as he prepares to potentially take over the role. Van Dyke still must undergo tests, but with his reaction to the injury and the severity of it from an outside perspective, it seems as though the quarterback might be done for the season. If Van Dyke is not able to return this season, the Wisconsin staff has been very high on Braedyn Locke and praised the duo as ‘two starting quarterbacks’ this season.
How Long Could Van Dyke Be Out For the Wisconsin Football Team?
With what the severity of the injury appears to be, Van Dyke is likely done for the season after not being able to apply any pressure on his right leg. Van Dyke previously had surgery on the same knee, and to see him injure it again, it appears to be the same injury he previously endured. The quarterback still must undergo tests before deciding what route he must go moving forward with the injury as well as the severity.
The quarterback would still be eligible to return to the Wisconsin football team next season with a medical exemption redshirt. Van Dyke has used a redshirt in the past, which could affect the potential of receiving a second. However, given the potential severity of his injury and the likelihood of the quarterback missing the remainder of the season, a redshirt seems very possible.
Van Dyke struggled to fully unleash the offense of Wisconsin during the first two games of the season but began to gain more comfort as he went along. The quarterback looked solid against Alabama, completing his first five passes in a row before suffering the injury. Hopefully, for the sake of the Wisconsin Badgers and Van Dyke, the quarterback can return later on this season.
