The Chicago Bears finished with a 5-12 record during the 2024 NFL season. There were many questions about quarterback Caleb Williams during his rookie season.

Williams was the number one overall pick from the USC Trojans in the 2024 NFL Draft. With him missing the postseason, second overall pick quarterback Jayden Daniels made it to the NFC Championship Game last season with the Washington Commanders. There was a lot of turmoil with the Bears last season after the 4-2 start. Chicago fired Matt Eberflus as head coach during the middle of the 2024 season. They hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as head coach in the offseason to fix Williams.
Pro Football Focus Lists Chicago Bears Quarterback Caleb Williams To 2025 All-Breakout Team Despite Rookie Season Struggles

Pro Football Focus writer Bradley Locker wrote about potential breakout players at each position for the 2025 NFL season. At quarterback, he thinks that the Bears’ starting quarterback is going to breakout for the 2025 NFL season. Locker said,
“It’s hard not to get extremely excited about the crop of second-year quarterbacks in 2025, disregarding even Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix. Among the compelling gunslingers who have yet to fully prove themselves, Williams seems like the best bet to put everything together this season.
Although the former No. 1 overall pick posted only a 67.6 overall PFF grade and a 63.5 PFF passing grade, Williams flashed his potential by churning out three games with at least an 83.0 overall PFF grade. Moreover, his 3.9% big-time throw rate was the best among rookie QBs to record at least 115 dropbacks.
Williams certainly has areas to improve, including sack avoidance (league-high 17 sacks attributed to him) and negative plays (nineth percentile in avoiding such plays). But after adding Ben Johnson as his play caller and general manager Ryan Poles significantly upgrading Chicago’s offense with Joe Thuney (80.0 overall PFF grade), Drew Dalman (78.8 overall PFF grade), Colston Loveland (90.6 PFF receiving grade) and Luther Burden III (80.2 PFF receiving grade), Williams has everything at his disposal to excel this year.”
Williams completed 62.5% of his passes for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also rushed for 489 yards on 81 carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 6.0 for the Bears. He will have the offensive weapons to be successful in 2025. Assuming Johnson could get Williams to reach his potential, there is no doubt he could be a Top 10 quarterback in the NFL for Chicago by the end of the 2025 NFL season also.
