Will the 2022-23 season be bearable for Bears fans?

Not since the late 80’s have the Chicago Bears been consistently relevant. Sure there were a few seasons in the mid 90’s where Erik Kramer set some records. That’s not really saying much, and the Lovie Smith regime had a few really good seasons that include a Superbowl loss to the Colts in 06. Other then that its been a tough watch as a Bears fan. This season however has a chance to take the cake and being in the midst of a rebuild and most experts picking the Bears to be awful, what do Bears fans have to look forward to this season? You came to the right place. I will tell you.

    Justin Fields development

I don’t care what anyone says. Developing Fields is the top priority. Everything the Bears do this season should be tailored around this. I don’t expect Fields to take huge leaps and bounds, but I do expect to see lots of improvement. Most importantly getting rid of the ball quicker. Not only would it help Fields cut down on his high turnover rate but it will keep him healthy. If Fields gets hurt for any long period of time it will pretty much be a wasted season. Bears fans already hold their breath every time he takes off out of the pocket. Especially with head hunters in the division like Harrison Smith and old friend Adrian Amos.

    The coaching staff

The bears cleaned house last year and added an entirely new coaching staff. Matt Eberflus takes over the reigns as a first year head coach. Being a former defensive coordinator that’s the side of the ball to keep your eyes on to see what kind of impact he’s making. I don’t see new defensive coordinator Alan Williams is the new defensive coordinator but I don’t see him having much of his thumb print on the D. Player interviews and how they carry themselves on the field will show what kind of impact Eberflus has in the locker room. Maybe the most important coach hiring however is new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. He will be directly tied with the development of Fields and Coming over from the packers you have to feel good about that.

    The 99 Rams

The 99 Rams came out of nowhere to win the superbowl. Giving hope to every NFL team at the start of the season. Granted the Bears don’t want their starting QB to go down for the year in the preseason like the Rams. I can paint a scenario where the Bears have a great season. It’s highly unlikely but anything is possible. Justin Fields has the talent to be an MVP type one day. It’s not  impossible for him to have that type season, just pretty unlikely. It’s the NFL, crazier things have happened. They are solid at running back. Montgomery has become a top 10 running back and second year back Khalil Herbert was impressive his rookie campaign. The receiving core has a lot of questions but Darnell Mooney has Tyreek Hill potential. The O-line is better then given credit for. To many people look at sack numbers to determine how the line played. A lot of that has to do with the how long the QB holds the ball and Fields was awful at that. Also the run game looked last year behind them. If everything clicks they could be a top 10 offensive unit.

    Because you’re a true fan

If you’re a true fan do you really need a reason to watch your team? The Bears have one of the best fan bases in the league and they will pack soldier field like they always do. Regardless of how the team does this season kick back relax, and enjoy. Bear down.
