WR Tarique Milton
One of the most under appreciated pulls out of the portal this offseason comes in the form of Tarique Milton. Milton was a productive player early on at Iowa State before battling injuries. He fits the mold of the WRs Coach Sark has proven to target, so I expect to see Milton carve out a role. How big will it be? Remains to be seen. However, with the season quickly approaching, we’ll quickly find out what 2022 has in store for Tarique.

High School and Recruiting:
Tarique Milton was not very highly regarded out of high school. He played his high school football at Manatee High School in Bradenton, FL. He was ranked as the 2121st player in his class and the 304th rated WR. To say he has already surpassed those expectations is an understatement. In his varsity football career he totaled 115 catches for 1955 yards, and 25 TDs. He also added 240 rushing yards on 26 attempts for 4 TDs. He committed to Iowa State over the likes of Kentucky, Pitt, Michigan State, and Louisville.
On Field Skills:
Milton is another one of these Texas WRs with incredible speed. He put it on display at ISU with a season of 35 catches for over 20 yards per. Milton will live behind the deepest man on the defense with his speed. Expect to see him get hit on a couple of huge, momentum changing deep balls this season. He is faster than he is quick, as one of the things I notice when watching him is hip and midsection stiffness. He has good feet to make up for it, but he isn’t going to wiggle his way to a bunch of missed tackles.

Outlook for Texas in 2022:
If I had to make an educated guess on Milton’s role in 2022, it would be that he finished the season as the WR5. His speed will help him see the field, but I don’t think it’ll help him overtake any of Hall, Neyor, Whittington, and Worthy. As I said before, I expect Milton to be on the receiving end of some huge plays this year though. He has game breaking speed, and Coach Sark has proven to know how to utilize that.
Career Outlook:
Unless Milton has a gigantic breakout season in 2022, I’d expect him to go undrafted. He is talented and has a lot of speed, so there is a chance someone falls in love with him, but after reviewing his tape I don’t think he’s there yet. Hopefully Brennan Marion and Steve Sarkisian can get every last drop of talent out of Milton, and help him achieve being the best player he can be.
