The Dolphins had their second consecutive winning season last year and are looking to make it three straight this year. The Dolphins are in the middle of the pack when it comes to strength of schedule this season. Therefore, they need to take care of business in their division and win those specific games in order to separate themselves from the Bills, Patriots, and Jets. One addition that will help them win the AFC East is Tyreek Hill.
What Tyreek Hill Brings to the Dolphins
Tyreek Hill signing for the Dolphins was the biggest news this offseason in the NFL. Hill is one of the most explosive and exciting players to watch. In six years, Hill has 6,630 receiving yards, and 56 touchdowns. Hill brings a whole new game plan to Miami which will force opposing defenses to focus on him, which will open up the field for Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki. Jaylen Waddle had a great rookie season with 1,015 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Waddle was the main target for Tua and now with the addition of Hill, he will be able to have more freedom as more defenders will be drawn to Hill because of his deep route capabilities.
Tyreek Hill wasn’t the only addition to this Dolphins offense this offseason. They added running backs Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, and Sony Michel. These three will be competing for the starting job in the backfield alongside Tua. This running back core has the most depth in the league and I believe a lot of people are overlooking this squad. They could produce some monster numbers and help Tua open up the pass game when needed.
Will the Dolphins Defense Step Up This Year?
The Dolphins defense had an average season last year, but will need to produce significantly more if they want to win the division. They have one of the youngest defenses in the league and will continue to gel together with more reps and experience. Christian Wilkins is the leader on this Dolphins team and will need to step up and show his leadership on and off the field. The main team that this defense will need to maintain is the Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins have the offense to match the Bills, but their defense will need to play just as good if they want any chance at beating them. They have the potential to be a great defense, but will need to get a lot more experience together and keep the ball in their offenses hands.
What Will the Dolphins Accomplish This Season?
The Dolphins have a very talented team and the only thing holding back their full potential is themselves. They have the players to win this division, but it is up to them to play together. The only team that stands in their way are the Buffalo Bills, who are a great team. The Bills have proven they are the team to beat in this division, but every team has flaws and the Dolphins will need to expose the Bills in order to take back this division.
