The Dallas Cowboys have all been eliminated from playoff contention this season. Yes, they are still mathematically alive for a wild card spot but for how many weeks? Dallas fans shouldn’t be expecting any turnaround coming with Cooper Rush or Trey Lance under center. With starting quarterback Dak Prescott out for the remainder of the season, lame duck Head Coach Mike McCarthy is left giving puzzled looks on the sideline as to why his team continues to get blown out and utterly dominated.
The Cowboys have had consistent success under McCarthy, going to the playoffs every single year. That’s become not enough for owner Jerry Jones, he wants Super Bowls. Dallas has severely underperformed this season and it’s fair to say America’s Team has been filled with more drama than your average soap opera. Whether Jones will admit it or not, he is a very large part of the problem in Dallas. Acting as the General Manager, he has clearly lost his eye for talent. Nobody in their right mind would think Rico Dowdle or Ezekiel Elliott would be sufficient backs this season.
Dallas Cowboys Are Too Far Gone
Dallas has always preached home grown talent through the draft, rarely bringing in mass waves of free agents. This year was bad even in Dallas standards, Jones and the Cowboys front office didn’t make any moves this off-season. Besides signing veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks. They allowed the contract disputes of quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Ceedee Lamb dominate the news right up until week one. Before making Prescott the highest paid player in NFL history.
It’s fair to say McCarthy is coaching his last games for the Cowboys organization right now. It doesn’t appear he will be fired during the season and rather just let go at the end of the year when his contract expires. This has made Dallas fans already start the hiring process for next year’s head coach. Bringing out big names left and right, anyone from Ben Johnson to Deion Sanders or even Super Bowl winning coach Bill Belichick.
Bill Belichick Will Not Be Coaching In Dallas
The former New England Patriots’ coach has been rumored for nearly any job opening available, or for any fan base with a struggling team and wanting to push their current coach out the door. Rightfully so, considering Belichick is one of the greatest coaches of all time in the NFL. But don’t get your hopes up Dallas fans, he won’t be coming to save the day in the lone star state any time soon.
Bill Belichick operates as his own general manager; he wants full control of an organization like he had so long in New England. Sure, under the right circumstances he would work with a team’s general manager, but Belichick would need to have final say on any player that suits up on his roster. This isn’t how Jerry Jones operates at all. Jones and Belichick would not be able to coexist and build a winning team together. It would turn into a battle over power and control.
Though, Belichick probably does give the Dallas Cowboys the best chance at returning to greatness and winning a Super Bowl. As long as Jerry Jones is there calling the shots, it’s a safe bet to count the former Patriots coach out of the running for the head coaching job.
