EA sports has announced that they plan to release a new NCAA football game in 2023. The renewal of the series has been long awaited since the series discontinued after 2013. But who will be featured on the cover of this upcoming edition? It has been a tradition of video game/sports fans to speculate about the cover athlete. In this article, I’ll give a few possible names that could potentially grace the cover.
Bryce Young
After winning the Heisman Trophy in 2021, its not out of the realm of possibility for Young to win another one. Alabama will once again be in the thick of the national title discussion this year, which means Young will once again be in the spotlight. While, Young is not a flashy, dual-threat QB, there is a history of EA featuring pocket QBs on the cover. This includes Joey Harrington, Carson Palmer, and Mark Sanchez.

CJ Stroud
Last season, CJ Stroud came on strong at the end of the year, putting himself in a battle with Bryce Young to be the No. 1 QB selected in the 2023 NFL draft. His incredible Rose Bowl performance against Utah will remain etched in the minds of college football fans for a long time. Can Stroud beat out Young for the Heisman Trophy and the National Championship? If he can, then that could give him the edge to be the featured athlete for the game. The Buckeyes play their toughest opponents at home, giving them a chance to make a run to the playoff.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Stroud’s partner, Jaxon Smith-Njigba can’t be counted out of this discussion either. Last season, Smith-Njigba was arguably the most productive receiver in the country. He was even playing with two first-round draft picks and racked up 95 receptions and 1,606 yards. Of course, many observers remember his incredible 15 reception, 347 yard performance against Utah in the Rose Bowl. If Smith-Njigba can continue to accumulate large statistics while playing his best in big games, he could definitely be EA’s choice for cover athlete. Skill players like Darren McFadden, Larry Fitzgerald, Charles Woodson, and Reggie Bush have previously graced the cover.
Bijan Robinson
Robinson will likely be the best RB in the country next season. It’s not likely his team will have the success of Alabama or Ohio State. But Texas is still a blue-blood program and a huge brand within college football. If Robinson has great individual success, his flashy cutting ability and elusivity could make him an attractive commodity for EA.
