Even with the 37-21 defeat against Kansas, Deion Sanders has managed to lead Colorado to one of their best seasons in the past 30 years. At 8-3, the Buffaloes have achieved their highest win total in eight years and only their second winning season since 2006. While Colorado’s hopes of reaching the Big 12 Title Game took a big hit due to Saturday’s result, Coach Sanders has still brought this program a long way during his two seasons in Boulder. Let’s not forget that this team was coming off a 1-11 season when Sanders took the job.
In addition to Deion’s increased reputation among the coaching ranks, Shedeur Sanders has also had an exceptional season under center, having thrown 30 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. Furthermore, Shedeur has averaged 317 passing yards per game while completing over 73 percent of his passes. He is currently the betting favorite to be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft with teammate Travis Hunter coming in as a close second.
The success of the father-son duo has led to widespread speculation that Deion could follow Shedeur to the NFL and possibly coach the team that ends up drafting him. Several potential landing spots have been rumored with the primary focus surrounding three teams.
Dallas Cowboys
It comes as no surprise that the Cowboys have been right at the epicenter of the rumor mill. Deion Sanders played for Dallas from 1995 to 1999 and was on the team that won Super Bowl XXX (their most recent Super Bowl title). The Cowboys’ disappointing season makes them an even more convenient landing spot since they are highly likely to hold a top-10 pick when the season ends. Dallas’ lackluster campaign has thrown the futures of Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott into question, leaving prospective vacancies that the Sanders duo could fill.
Las Vegas Raiders
Rumors had previously circulated that the Raiders were Shedeur’s preferred draft destination; although it is unclear how accurate those rumors were. Nevertheless, Vegas has one of the worst quarterback rooms in the entire league (alongside another team that will be discussed shortly). Antonio Pierce’s job security seems to be in serious doubt after seven consecutive losses dating back to September 29th. Most importantly, the Raiders are currently tied for the worst record in the NFL, giving them decent odds at earning the top draft pick, or at least a pick high enough to be able to select Colorado’s QB.
New York Giants
The Giants’ franchise is currently a gigantic mess personified by the fact that they chose to pay Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkley. As of Week 12, they have the lowest-scoring offense in the entire league with only 14.8 points per game. Their present situation is so bad that Malik Nabers has already publicly voiced his displeasure with the current state of the team, not even a full season into his NFL career.
Turning around the G-Men would take serious work for whoever their future head coach ends up being, assuming that Brian Daboll is actually fired. However, seeing Deion and Shedeur join forces in the country’s biggest media market would make for must-see TV, just as it would no matter what team it could end up happening for.
