The New York Giants were looking to take the best player available on the board with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants did just that by selecting Penn State Nittany Lions edge rusher Abdul Carter third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

NFL Commissioner points out New York Giants fans to edge rusher Abdul Carter after the Giants select Carter with the third pick during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The draft runs through April 26.

Some people think that Carter could be the best player in this draft class. With this pick, New York’s defense could look very different in the future. Carter spoke to the media after being drafted by New York.

NFL draft prospect, Abdul Carter of Penn State, during the NFL Draft Red Carpet event at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

New York’s defense is going to look different up front in 2025 with Carter, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence, and Brian Burns. It could be one of the best defensive lines in the entire NFL. After the former Nittany Lions star drafted into the NFL, he made a critical announcement. Carter said,

“We’re going to be dominant. It’s going to be dope just getting to know those guys as a person, getting to know them as men and then getting closer as teammates. And then once we get on the field together, just wreak havoc.”

It will be interesting to see how well they all play together on the field. When the Giants won four Super Bowl titles, they always had an elite defensive front. This could be the new identity for New York moving forward.

In 16 games for Penn State during the 2024 college football season, he recorded 68 tackles, 12.0 sacks, and four pass deflections. Carter is always disrupting plays on defense. He is 6’3″ and weighs 259 lbs. One of the things that Giants fans will be looking forward to in 2025 is how disruptive the defensive front can be for them also.
