Sam Hartman and A.T. Perry vs. #23 Florida St
Sam Hartman: 22/34, 234 passing yards, two passing TDs
A.T. Perry: 8 rec, 91 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD
Sam Hartman led the Deacon Demons to an ACC win vs. the Florida State Seminoles. Hartman was able to take care of the football and not commit any turnovers. The Seminoles gave him opportunities to air the ball out downfield; however, Hartman missed most of them. Among the misses, Hartman was able to find his outlets and convert long third downs over the middle. The offensive scheme Wake Forest runs is not NFL friendly, but Hartman brings qualities teams may want to take a chance on to mold. A decent arm, mobility, and a good release is a package that can be worked with. Hartman does need to work better with sensing pressure when in the pocket. Hartman has good decision-making when reading the field during the long mesh, but his accuracy is a little questionable.
A.T. Perry was everything expected coming into this game and even a little more. Several plays showed off his downfield speed, stacking corners and getting open deep. Releases from the line of scrimmage continue to be a strength. Speaking of his strength, Perry showed off his physicality and size at the route stem to get open on several curls and slants. The preview of Perry this week emphasized the importance of getting the ball to him shallow and Wake Forest delivered. On several plays over the middle Perry was able to show some wiggle in the open field after the catch. In a league where DK Metcalf and Chase Claypool have seen success, Perry may be the next in that line of deep ball prospects.
