The Oregon Ducks are one of the best teams in the college football landscape. Head coach Dan Lanning is preparing his team for a matchup this weekend at home against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Oklahoma State is unranked, and Oregon is the sixth-ranked team in the country. With that being said, Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy said about the upcoming matchup with the Ducks on his radio show,
“We spent around $7 million over the last three years, and I think Oregon spent close to $40 [million] last year alone. That was just one year. Now, I might be off a few million. What I’m saying is they’re spending a lot of money. There’s some schools that are doing that.”
Well, there was a reason why Oregon had a 12-0 record in the regular season in 2024 and were also the one seed in the college football playoffs. As for Oklahoma State, they had a 3-9 record in 2024 and did not even go to a bowl game last season.
Oregon Ducks Head Coach Dan Lanning Makes Statement About Gundy’s Comments

Lanning spoke to the media on Monday about Gundy’s comments about spending money. The Ducks head coach said,
“I’ve got a ton of respect for Coach Gundy. Ultimately, how blessed are we being at a place that’s invested in winning? If you want to be a top-10 team in college football, you better be invested in winning, and we spend to win. Some people save to have an excuse for why they don’t. I can’t speak on their situation. I have no idea what they got in their pockets over there. I’m sure UT Martin maybe didn’t have as much as them last week, and they played, so we’ll let it play out.”
Well, there is no doubt that Lanning is right that each team has a different situation with its NIL money. Maybe Gundy is also making excuses for himself as well. Oregon has a much better roster than Oklahoma State does. There is a chance that the Ducks talented roster will give the Cowboys fits all game long and the postgame handshake could be interesting between Lanning and Gundy.
