There will be a lot of pressure on LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly to get his program to the college football playoffs in his fourth season. LSU was on the verge of being a playoff team in 2024, but they faltered after that.

In 2025, the Tigers will be one of the teams in the SEC Conference who will be under the most pressure to get to the playoffs. LSU will open the season on the road in Week 1 against the Clemson Tigers. On September 13, they will begin SEC Conference play at home against the Florida Gators.
LSU Tigers Head Coach Brian Kelly Understands the Importance Of Week 1 Against the Clemson Tigers

Cotton Bowl Head Coaches Press Conference
It was SEC media day on Monday for the SEC Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. LSU is one of the teams in the conference that will be under the spotlight in 2025. The Tigers have lost their last five Week 1 matchups. Kelly has been here for three of them and he is looking to avoid another Week 1 loss on the road against Clemson on August 30.
Kelly spoke to Andrea Adelson of espn.com about what LSU’s approach is to Week 1 against Clemson. He said to her,
“I’ve never really been, ‘It’s all or nothing.’ This year is a change in our philosophy, in that we have to focus on Clemson. Our focus has to be playing our very best in that first week.”
It would be huge for this LSU football program to win a Week 1 game. If they were to lose another Week 1 matchup, there is going to be a lot of pressure on Kelly in the coming weeks when SEC plays begin. Even though the first week is a non-conference game, Clemson is going to be one of the top ranked teams in the country entering the 2025 season and they are going to be talked about as a national contender.
LSU wants to be in the same conversation as well with them, but the Tigers have to win on the road in Week 1. The last thing that this program needs it a loss to Clemson and Florida within the first three weeks of the 2025 college football season. If that happens, Kelly will be on the hot seat. However, if LSU can win those first three games, they may be just fine for the 2025 college football season.
