The Florida Gators athletic department announced today that head football coach Billy Napier will return despite clear struggles.
Napier has coached the Gators to a combined 15-18 record with just three games left this season for the team. The Florida Gators have a conference record of 8-13 under Napier, who was a massive hire at the time for the program after his success with Louisiana. Napier is currently paid $ 7.1 million a year by the Gators but likely will finish his first three seasons without a winning record.

The Florida Gators came to Napier during a time of need, after the program had arguably fallen out of college football playoff favor. The Gators have not been a serious, top-10 contender in the country in quite some time, and Napier was hired to supposedly fix that issue. However, his tenure with the team has been nothing short of disappointing thus far.

Unfortunately for Gators fans, the tenure will not be finished just yet after the program announced Napier would remain the coach. One unclear part of the initial announcement was the fact that the 2025 season was never clearly stated, potentially leaving a loophole for the Gators program to use. The announcement instead insisted that Napier would be the right man for the job “moving forward”.
Florida Gators Fans, College Football Fans React to Billy Napier Returning

While there are a few Napier supporters here and there, a large amount of Florida Gators fans have wanted Napier gone for quite some time.
With Napier sticking around, the reaction from Florida Gators fans has been pretty brutal, with many fans feeling the team is doomed moving forward.

Great decision Gators. He deserves a lifetime contract.

I guess they like mediocrity on the football field. A very good academic institution but willing to accept a low bar on the field. It will be interesting to see whether this full throated support changes after the next 3 games against Texas, LSU and Ole Miss.

Napier underperformed the high expectations so much that the revised expectations are so low that he’s now outperforming lol

Other college football fans took the time to rub the pain into the Florida Gators fans hearts, as Napier is going to be a mainstay for at least the near future.
The rest of the SEC is happy
