“We Beat Ourselves”: New York Giants Dexter Lawrence Makes Obvious Statement After Loss Against the New Orleans Saints

The New York Giants offense looked good during the first few drives of the game against the New Orleans Saints. New York had a 14-3 lead over New Orleans at one point in the game.

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart threw two touchdown passes to tight end Theo Johnson. However, Darius Slayton had key drops in the first half and a fumble that led to other bad events for the Giants against the Saints. New Orleans defeated New York by a final score of 26-14. They had five total turnovers and both teams have a 1-4 record this season. The defense was not at fault for the loss, but Dexter Lawrence had some words about the loss.

The Giants defense did not play bad against the Saints on Sunday, The turnovers in this game turned out to be killers for this football team. Lawrence said to Dan Duggan of the Athletic about the loss on Sunday,

“We just ain’t play well enough. End of the day, we beat ourselves. A lot of plays that we just can’t have to win a football game.”

He is right about that. If they limited the turnovers, the Giants may have won the game. New York trailed 19-14 in the fourth quarter and then rookie running back Cam Skattebo fumbled in the red zone and New Orleans returned it for a touchdown. That was the play that sealed the game. There are many issues with this football team.

Without wide receiver Malik Nabers, they are pedestrian at wide receiver. This will not bode well for Dart. New York and Lawrence will try and improve on a short week when they host the Philadelphia Eagles (4-1) on Thursday night. As for New Orleans, they will host the New England Patriots (3-2) next week.
