The Penn State Nittany Lions just a couple of weeks ago were the third ranked team in the country preparing to face the Oregon Ducks. Penn State had a 3-0 record then, but they have lost three straight games.

Losing to Oregon was not a big deal. The losses to the UCLA Bruins and the Northwestern Wildcats (22-21) were the final straw for this football program. On Sunday, Penn State finally made the move and fired head coach James Franklin. Franklin has been the head coach of this football program since the 2014 season. He will be getting more than $50 million despite being fired from the program.

Penn State Nittany Lions Fans React To James Franklin Being Fired

Many Penn State fans knew he couldn’t win against the top tier competition during his tenure with the Nittany Lions. It was a surprise that he didn’t finish out the season with the program. This is what some fans said about Franklin finally being fired:

    Thank Christ…WAY OVERDUE!!!!

It will take Penn State 5 years to recover. The transfer portal will be brutal for Penn State .

1 play away from national championship last year, to being fired. James Franklin deserves better

If Penn State can pull the trigger on Franklin, then Florida definitely needs to fire Billy Boy! It’s not hard Florida… Just call Billy up and say “GET TF OUT OF HERE!”

It is going to be interesting to see who Penn State will hire as its next head coach after Franklin leaves. One of the main reasons why Franklin was fired was probably because of quarterback Drew Allar. Allar showed no development over his four years with the program.

The former Nittany Lions head coach is going to gage interest in other programs. However, it appears as if Allar went from first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to potentially being undrafted. It will be interesting to see what Franklin’s stop maybe in the college football landscape.
