The Dallas Cowboys entered Saturday’s NFC Wildcard round as a two-score favorite over the Green Bay Packers.
While the Cowboys entered the home matchup undefeated at AT&T Stadium this season and many smart NFL media members pegged them as the Super Bowl favorites, but head coach Mike McCarthy has just a )1-3) record in the postseason since leading Dallas.
But still, it felt different this season. Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb were clicking and emerged as one of the top offenses in the NFL, while defensive coordinator Dan Quinn had the No. 5 defense at the end of the regular season.
All the Dallas Cowboys had to do was knock off the Green Bay Packers, who were coming to their home stadium with a first-year QB and the youngest roster in the NFL. The only offensive player who has touched the ball today that has ever played in the postseason before is Aaron Jones. The team has 14 starters that were born after the year 2000.
So this year felt different. Despite the team’s history, many believed the 2023 team was different. Dak Prescott was playing at a MVP level and the Cowboys dominated opponents at home. They had elite talent on both sides of the ball and were prepped to erase a dreadful history.
It’s been 29 years since the Cowboys beat Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers, 38-27, in the 1995 NFC Championship Game, before beating Bill Cowher’s Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-17, in Super Bowl XXX.
That’s the last time Dallas has made it as far as a conference championship game. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more disappointing playoff stretch for any franchise than the Cowboys’ over this time.
They’ve endured 13 playoff exits since then, including a stunning blowout loss to the Packers on Sunday. Here’s a number and fact for each one, to sum up the postseason agony for America’s Team.
Dallas Cowboys Dominated By Green Bay Packers, Fans Get in Brawl When They Know It’s Over
The Packers came in and from the opening coin toss, set the tone. They won it, and instead of deciding to defer which is common for NFL teams to do, Matt LaFleur and company opted to receive, in an aggressive move to score early.
First-year starter Jordan Love led the Packers offense — loaded with rookies and second-year players in key skill positions — orchestrated a brilliant drive and went up 7-0. They never looked back and by halftime, the Dallas Cowboys were stunned, trailing 27-7.
This playoff exit was especially disappointing given the Cowboys were 7.5-point favorites vs. the Packers. The Cowboys are the first team since the 1970 merger to lose three straight playoff games as a favorite of at least seven points. They lost to the Cardinals in 1998, Giants in 2007 and Green Bay on Sunday. A bonus No. 7: The Cowboys have lost seven straight games in the divisional round, the longest streak by any team since the merger. They won’t have to worry about extending that this year.
By the end of the third quarter, as the Packers held a commanding 41-16 over Dallas, it was clear a comeback wasn’t happening. Fans began fleeing for the exits. And a group of all Cowboys fans, who were clearly expecting a win to advance in the playoffs, began arguing, cussing and bickering amongst one other which resulted in a full fight between several fans all rooting for the home team.

That’s when you know things are bad.
Now, Dallas Cowboys fans will head home and wait to see if Jerry Jones makes any significant moves with Mike McCarthy or Dak Prescott. Like a nightmare that comes back over and over again, it happened.
The Cowboys — despite being heavy favorites — were knocked out of the playoffs yet again and fans are both angry and stunned.

Dakota Prescott is a bummer. He’s as bad if not worse than Tony Romo. Can’t play bug in vug moments. Especially considering all the talent he has around him. The coach is a bummer also get rid of him and start over. They have talent there is no way they shouldn’t be winning sometime vestiges the regular season. Dak you suck big ones BYE BYE
