The Washington Huskies have lost to Washington State after some questionable coaching decisions were made down the stretch.
The Huskies have dropped to 2-1 on the season after losing to tough in-state rival Washington State at home. The Cougars are keeping the Pac-12 Conference alive and winning games while doing so as the Huskies let a win slip out of their hands. The coaching staff made questionable calls down the stretch of the game that resulted in the Huskies failing to score the winning touchdown.
Washington Huskies Utilize Two Quarterbacks During Narrow Loss to Cougars
The Washington football team will move to 2-1 on the season after dropping their home rivalry game against the Washington State Cougars. The Huskies had multiple chances to secure a win against the Cougars but were unable to pull their offense together to do so. The Huskies tried to get too creative towards the end of the game and ran multiple option plays in an attempt to trick the defense.
I said play action to Coleman with a 2 yd TE out. How do they run a pro style offense, then choose the option with Will Rogers out of a timeout. It’s just hard to comprehend their thinking here.

However, the Huskies tricked themselves and ultimately lost a game that they should have won against a lesser opponent. Quarterback Will Rogers was visibly emotional after the loss when speaking with the media and felt the team had a chance to win the game. Rogers and Huskies fans alike feel the game could have ended in the favor of Washington, but unfortunately did not end that way.
Should the Washington Football Staff Be Held Accountable For the Loss?
The Washington football staff should at least consider themselves partially accountable for the loss to the Cougars due to their mismanagement of the game toward the end. Quarterback Will Rogers is accomplished and a strong thrower of the football, but not much of a runner after multiple knee injuries. Demond Williams Jr has been the rushing quarterback for the Huskies, but Rogers was left in for multiple key option plays that he is not suited for.
Washington football fans took to social media to voice their displeasure as many fans felt the Huskies could have won the game with the right players in the game.
Not only was the play all time stupid and they wanted a timeout to call it, but they have a QB who is actually good at running the ball and they left him on the bench for 28 year old Will Rogers to try a speed option to the short side of the field. Oh and 16 penalties. Fire Fisch

The Washington football staff had multiple personnel issues much like the Williams Jr-Rogers situation that would lead to broken plays. The Huskies needed the right guys on the field for the right situations, but could not do so against the Cougars which ultimately led to the loss. Had Williams Jr been in the game for the option play, the Huskies probably would have been able to extend their drive.
