The Washington Commanders‘ secondary had issues covering wide receivers in a Week 1 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Washington is going to have issues on the backend all season long.
The Commanders could very well be playing from behind in a lot of games this season. Washington went 4-13 a season ago. They could very well be drafting very high in the 2025 NFL Draft. The good news for them is that they will not need to draft a quarterback. This is a football team that is going through a rebuilding stage. It is going to take them a couple of years of where they want to be.
2025 NFL Mock Draft Has the Washington Commanders Selecting Michigan Wolverines Cornerback Will Johnson
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports created an NFL Mock Draft after the first week of the season for 2025. He has the Washington Commanders at the moment with the fourth overall pick. For this selection, he has Washington selecting Michigan Wolverines cornerback Will Johnson. Trappaso said of this selection:
“Johnson looks the part of a top-five cornerback. He has length, fluidity, plus instincts, physicality and speed. He’s precisely the type most teams need, and the Commanders especially need.”
Will Johnson is currently in his junior season with the Michigan Wolverines. In his first two games with Michigan this season, he has recorded six tackles and one interception, and his interception was returned for an 86-yard touchdown.
Commanders Depth Chart
There is no question that Will Johnson would be the number one cornerback on the Washington Commanders roster. Johnson would be an upgrade over what Washington has right now. Cornerback Emanuel Forbes suffered an undisclosed injury in a 37-20 loss on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Some of the scouting reports according to nfldraftbuzz.com about Will Johnson are as follows:
“Will Johnson has the tools to be an impact player in the NFL. His combination of size, speed, and ball skills makes him a versatile defender capable of excelling in multiple coverage schemes. His ability to read plays and react quickly sets him apart, making him a valuable asset in both man and zone coverage.”
Benjamin St.-Juste, Michael Davis, and Mike Sainristil are the other cornerbacks on the Washington Commanders roster. They could be in for a long year on the backend. Will Johnson is probably going to be the pick for the Commanders if they are high enough to select him in the 2025 NFL Draft.
