The Washington Commanders are preparing for the opening week of the 2024 NFL season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One of the biggest storylines for Washington entering the first week of the season will be how well will rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels perform this season.
A lot of people have high expectations for him. Daniels doesn’t have a strong wide receiver core, but a name like Davante Adams and others could be on the trade market later in the season.
ESPN’s Mina Kimes Thinks That the Washington Commanders Will Trade For Davante Adams Later In the Season
There are two secrets that everyone knows about by now. The first secret is that the Commanders need another playmaker for quarterback Jayden Daniels. The second secret is that Davante Adams’s name has been floated around in trade rumors for quite some time.
Mina Kimes of ESPN went onto the Dominique Foxworth Show and made a shocking prediction about the Commanders and Davante Adams. This is what Kimes said:
“The Commanders strike me as a team that are going to be like just feisty enough to want to do this [trade].”
Adams last season with the Las Vegas Raiders caught 103 passes for 1,144 yards receiving, and eight touchdowns, along with averaging 11.1 yards per reception. He was targeted 175 times last season. Davante Adams is 31 years old and could go to a team that is ready to win now.
Adams Will Have Other Suitors and Commanders Should Draft a Wide Receiver Instead
There will be other NFL teams that will need Davante Adams later in the NFL season. The Las Vegas Raiders will probably trade him at the NFL trade deadline. The Washington Commanders should hang onto their draft picks and draft a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft rather than trading for Adams.
Terry McLaurin will be the start wide receiver in the Commanders offense this season. Dyami Brown and rookie Luke McCaffrey will be the other wide receivers who will see snaps in this offense.
If he was younger, then it would make a lot of sense. Washington is not close to winning a Super Bowl Title. A possible reunion with the Green Bay Packers could make sense for Adams or a team like the Dallas Cowboys could pursue Adams. The Washington Commanders’ future playmaker could be a guy like Travis Hunter, Luther Burden III, or Tetairoa McMillan.
