The 2025 NFL season is right around the corner and the future of Terry McLaurin with the Washington Commanders is still very much unknown. He has been unhappy with his contract situation and the team has yet to work out a new deal with him.
Due to the lack of a new contract between the two parties, trade rumors have been running rampant. Quite a few teams around the league could still use wide receiver help and McLaurin is one of the most underrated star wideouts in the NFL.
With training camp about to begin for the Commanders and no end to the contract standoff in sight, McLaurin has now spoken out about his feelings on the matter.
Could he choose to hold out of training camp? That is something he openly discussed.
Washington Commanders’ Terry McLaurin Gets Honest on Future Before 2025 Season
As shared by The Athletic, McLaurin hasn’t fully decided how he’s going to handle things just yet.
“I haven’t decided that yet,” McLaurin said. “I’m trying to take things day by day and that’s the disappointing part. I was hoping up until this point things would clear up a lot more than they have. I haven’t made that decision yet, I’m just going to see how the rest of this week goes and take it day by day and go from there. I’m not making any declarations of one way or another but I’m just kind of speaking on how it’s made me feel, how this offseason’s been, the frustrations I’ve felt, that’s all true.”

He continued on, making it clear that he’s not going to back down from what he’s asking to receive in a new contract. McLaurin knows what he’s worth.
“I know I’m deserving of what I’m asking for and I’m willing to stand firm on that,” he continued. “Just have to see where it goes from there. They feel how they feel and I feel how I feel. You hope you can come to some understanding and common ground. I’m not a combative person, but I am someone who’s going to stand on my worth and know what I bring to a team. It’s not because of, ‘Oh I feel that way,’ it’s because what I’ve proven year to year.”
During the 2024 NFL season with the Commanders, McLaurin played in 17 games. He caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and a career-best 13 touchdowns.
Washington has a tough decision to make as well. Do they pay him what he’s asking for or do they stand firm and potentially end up trading him? Fans will just have to wait and see.
Expect to hear more about McLaurin’s situation with the Commanders in the near future. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
