Like Las Vegas Raiders’ Davante Adams and Dallas Cowboys’ Trey Lance, Washington Commanders’ Jonathan Allen is projected to make a trade demand sooner than later. Turns out, the defensive tackle has a good reason for making such a request.
According to reports, there is a possibility that Allen could request a trade in the near future. Despite being one of the team’s best players since being drafted in 2017, the Commanders have struggled to achieve sustained success during his tenure, managing just a single playoff appearance.

Fowler suggests that the addition of 2024 second-round pick Johnny Newton, as well as the continued strong play of Daron Payne, could lead the 29-year-old to seek a fresh start elsewhere.
Allen has publicly voiced his frustration with the team’s lack of progress in the past, and with a new regime in place led by quarterback Jayden Daniels, his patience with another potential rebuild may have worn thin.
Washington Commanders’ Jonathan Allen Projected To Request For a Trade

In the event Washington trades Allen to another team, both parties may have a good reason to do so. This can be seen in an article written by Ryan Fowler for Bleacher Report.
“Though he’s been a mainstay along the Commanders line since the organization spent a first-round pick on him in 2017, the play of running mate Daron Payne and the addition of 2024 second-rounder Johnny Newton could see Allen request to be moved.
Though Allen has multiple Pro Bowl selections under his belt, the team has struggled to achieve success. Allen has publicly voiced his frustration in the past due to such, and with a new regime in town—as promising as it may be with Jayden Daniels under center—the 29-year-old’s patience within another rebuild could be spent,” Fowler wrote.
Moving Allen presents an opportunity to add a valuable pick and idealize the future of Payne alongside Newton while John Ridgeway III provides depth. While a trade request from Allen would make sense given the circumstances, he likely would have already made such a move if he was truly set on leaving Washington. Allen remains the leader of the Commanders’ defense, and it appears he will be a key part of the team’s plans for the upcoming 2024 season.

Ultimately, Allen’s future with the Commanders remains uncertain, but the team will likely do everything in its power to retain one of its most valuable and respected players. Fans and the organization will be eager to see how this situation unfolds in the coming months.
