The Washington Commanders have been one of the teams that are looking to step up and dominate in a weaker NFC this season. However, they have made a veteran addition in their wide receiver room, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that wide receiver Martavis Bryant is signing with the team after a pair of workouts.
Martavis Bryant has not played in the National Football League since the 2018 season when he played with the Oakland Raiders after spending his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In four seasons, Martavis Bryant finished with 145 receptions on 251 targets for 2183 yards (15.1 yards per catch) with 17 receiving touchdowns.
Martavis Bryant was last seen in the NFL as a member of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad after he was reinstated from his indefinite suspension. Bryant also was playing in the XFL during the 2023 season. This will be a nice depth piece for the Washington Commanders with a lot of upside if things were to work out smoothly.
Can the Washington Commanders make the playoffs?
The Washington Commanders are going to have a tough time making the postseason as DraftKings Sportsbook has the team listed at +260 to make the playoffs this year. The team has some solid new additions beginning with the coaching staff as former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is the new head coach of the Washington Commanders.
To bolster his coaching staff, he added Kliff Kingsbury (OC), Joe Whitt Jr. (DC) and Larry Izzo (STC) to be on the coaching staff as well. Then of course, are the players as the team selected quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second pick in the 2024 NFL draft and with the wide receivers of Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and now Martavis Bryant as well as running back Austin Ekeler, they can be solid.
The offense’s biggest weakness is going to be their protection as the offensive line is not where you would want to see them be. The defense saw a lot of known names join as well as drafting Michigan Wolverines cornerback Mike Sainristil. This Washington Commanders team can be a solid team but it is difficult to picture them as a playoff team in the first year of Dan Quinn being the team’s head coach.
