Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Washington hopes that Daniels can be their franchise quarterback for the next decade. A season ago, Jayden Daniels played with the LSU Tigers and won the Heisman Trophy.
In 12 games a season ago with LSU, he completed 72.2% of his passes for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Daniels also rushed for 1,134 yards on 135 carries and 10 touchdowns, along with averaging 8.4 yards per carry.
It was a good decision to draft him as the next franchise quarterback. They decided to take him over Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy. Caleb Williams was already off the board by the time Washington was on the clock in the 2024 NFL Draft.
CBS Sports Daniel Benjamin Has Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders Ranked 28th On CBS Sports Quarterback Poll
In the latest CBS Sports quarterback rankings by Daniel Benjamin, he has Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels ranked 28th on the poll before the start of the 2024 NFL regular season. The only four quarterbacks that he is ranked ahead of on this list are Gardner Minshew of the Las Vegas Raiders, Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos, Bryce Young of the Carolina Panthers, and Daniel Jones of the New York Giants.
Washington finished with a 4-13 record a season ago. They also finished in last place in the NFC East and went 0-6 in divisional play. With a new head coach and general manager around this season, the Commanders hope to show signs of improvement. Dan Quinn is the head coach after being the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator and Adam Peters is the new general manager after being in the San Francisco 49ers front office.
Some people think that Daniels could be as electrifying as Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson down the road. CBS Sports Daniel Benjamin said that Jayden Daniels being ranked 28th on the list is because:
“His pairing of electric mobility and a solid, veteran-littered supporting cast may well mean an easier transition to the NFL than fellow rookies. But his wiry frame has also yet to endure an NFL snap.”
His frame is one of the biggest questions surrounding Daniels entering his rookie season. Will he limit his running ability at the NFL level so he doesn’t take unnecessary hits? Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury will need to show him the ropes. That is how Robert Griffin III ruined his career early on. Jayden Daniels is looking to be a leader for the Washington Commanders and also a game-changer.
