Washington Commanders Coach Dan Quinn Explains Jahan Dotson Trade

The Washington Commanders surprisingly traded former first-round pick Jahan Dotson to the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

The move rounds out the NFC East rival’s receiving corps, and potentially ends their search for a reliable third option alongside A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in Philadelphia, but creates some uncertainty in Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ supporting cast.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn had a simple explanation for the trade.

“You always make decisions that are rock solid and best for the team,” Quinn told reporters Friday. “Everything is a factor. We thought we were a deep and strong group. We had a lot of different guys. At the end it was an opportunity to help the team.”

Dotson’s tenure with the Commanders comes to an end after catching 84 passes for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns through his first 29 games since being chosen with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

After moving on from Dotson, the Commanders will likely turn to Olamide Zaccheaus and rookie Luke McCaffrey to round out the receiving corps alongside Terry McLaurin in Daniels’ rookie season.
