The Washington Commanders have made a massive decision to cut someone after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 37-20. It is being reported by multiple outlets that the team has decided to cut kicker Cade York on Monday after just one game with the team.
The Washington Commanders made a trade with the Cleveland Browns before the preseason finale as they acquired Cade York in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick. The kicking situation for the Commanders has been somewhat of a revolving door as they originally had Brandon McManus locked in as the kicker but was released after sexual assault allegations came out.
The team had Riley Patterson as the kicker during the first few weeks of the preseason but eventually released him after the Cade York trade was completed. York struggled as he missed both field goal attempts in Week 1, but was able to knock down both extra point attempts. He missed a 47-yard and 56-yard field goal attempt during the game.
Who will be the new kicker for the Washington Commanders for Week 2?
With the release of Cade York, the Washington Commanders do not have a kicker on the 53-man roster as of this writing. They also do not have any players on the practice squad. There are a couple of legitimate options if they are not going to touch Brandon McManus right now.
One option would be to sign Randy Bullock, as he is a veteran free agent after playing more than a decade and kicking for 83.4% of his field goal attempts. The other option is Riley Patterson, as they are familiar with one another. There is always the potential that the Commanders could make a trade for a kicker but right now, they will likely need to make a decision quickly unless punter Tress Way is going to fill the role here.
