The Minnesota Vikings know that their 2024 season was lightening in a bottle. Very rarely can you sign a free agent quarterback and go on to win 14 games in a season. That being said, with Sam Darnold leaving for Seattle, Minnesota will likely be turning to JJ McCarthy for their starting job.
That became even more clear on Tuesday when Minnesota lost another quarterback.
Breaking: Vikings Lose Another Quarterback In Surprise Move
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:
#Vikings QB Daniel Jones is expected to sign with the #Colts, sources tell me and Tom Pelissero.
It’s a one-year deal and the parties are finalizing it. While Minnesota was a strong option, Jones opts to compete with Anthony Richardson in Indy.
Jones is signing with the #Colts on a 1-year, $14M contract worth up to $17.7M, per me and Tom Pelissero, and includes $13.15M fully guaranteed.
Really strong deal.
After being released by the Giants this past season, Jones signed with the Vikings to finish out the year. Even though JJ McCarthy figures to be the long-term answer in Minnesota, Jones returning to the team seemed like a viable option.
However, now Jones will compete with Anthony Richardson for the starting job in Indianapolis. Here is a look at Jones’ career stats:
