“There Is Interest One At Least 1 Side” Vikings – Cardinals Pegged To Agree To Conference-Altering Trade (Report)

The Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals are both coming off tough 2025 campaigns.  Minnesota finished 9-8 after winning 14 games last season and missed the playoffs entirely.  Arizona finished 3-14 and are looking at the 3rd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Daft.

However, these two teams could be in serious business before the season starts.

Kyler Murray Trade Rumors Heat Up: Vikings Emerge as Prime Landing Spot in NFC North Shake-Up

The Arizona Cardinals appear ready to close the chapter on the Kyler Murray era, setting the stage for a potential blockbuster trade that could reshape the NFC Conference. Despite Murray’s impressive career stats—20,460 passing yards, 3,193 rushing yards, and 153 total touchdowns since being selected No. 1 overall in 2019—he hasn’t elevated the franchise to sustained contention.  This has led to major speculation of a move after a disappointing 2025 season and a new coaching regime under Mike LaFleur.

SKOR North’s Phil Mackey dropped a bombshell on the “Purple Daily” podcast (February 12, 2026), reporting that Murray “would be interested” in playing for the Minnesota Vikings next season. This intel has sparked widespread discussion, with multiple outlets (including Bleacher Report, Sports Illustrated, Fansided, and Heavy) amplifying the link. On paper, Murray would represent a massive upgrade over rookie J.J. McCarthy, who struggled in 2025 amid offensive woes and led to GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s departure.

Why a Murray-to-Vikings Trade Makes Sense

  • Vikings’ QB Need: Minnesota finished 9-8 in 2025 but needs a proven veteran to compete immediately or push McCarthy. Head coach Kevin O’Connell has a track record of revitalizing QBs (e.g., Sam Darnold before his move), and pairing Murray with elite WR Justin Jefferson could create a dynamic tandem. Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton predicted Murray lands in Minnesota, writing: “Kyler Murray lands in Minnesota, where he can build a rapport with two-time All-Pro Justin Jefferson. The two could become a high-level tandem that consistently puts up big numbers through the air.”
  • Cardinals’ Motivation: Arizona faces a mid-March deadline on Murray’s contract (a $19.5M bonus due March 16, 2026) and could seek cap relief plus draft capital via trade. Reports indicate they’re exploring moves, though his $22.8M guaranteed in 2026 complicates deals—any trade partner might need Arizona to absorb some dead money.
  • Murray’s Appeal: At 28, the dual-threat QB (two-time Pro Bowler) seeks a fresh start on a competitive team. Sources note he wants to join a “winner,” and Minnesota’s infrastructure (O’Connell’s scheme, weapons like Jefferson) fits. Other rumored spots include the Jets, Steelers, Browns, Dolphins, and Falcons, but the Vikings buzz has built momentum.

This fits into larger 2026 QB carousel chatter. While the linked The Spun article predicts four major quarterback trades for the offseason, the Vikings-Cardinals link stands out as a potential conference-shifter. A swap could involve Minnesota sending assets (picks or even McCarthy in a creative deal) for Murray, instantly boosting their offense in the competitive NFC North.

No deal is imminent—trades can’t officially happen until the new league year (March 11, 2026), and both sides must align. Adam Schefter and others have noted the Vikings as a desirable spot for top available QBs due to their pieces in place. Murray grew up a Vikings fan in some reports, adding intrigue.
